Wind Power Price Beats Competition at Energy Auction in Brazil

Brazil's National Electric Power Agency held an energy auction last week in which seventy-eight wind farm projects outcompeted natural gas-fired power plants to win contracts totalling 1,928 megawatts.

The wind energy was average priced at 99.5 reals per megawatt compared to 103 reals for natural gas. Wind power costs are trending more competitively, being 19 percent lower than last year.
