In Washington, DC last October 13, 2011, the US offshore drilling regulator has officially issued sanctions against BP and other major contractors who were involved in the Deepwater Horizon explosion on 2010 that killed 11 workers and spewed more than 4 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. In accordance to law, the companies face fines as much as $35,000 a day per incident for the violations. In the final accident report issued last month, the Interior Department outlines infractions committed by the companies.
